Everyone has their thing. Some people have mastered the art of domestic cooking, a skill that I am still working on. Other’s are experts in fashion, effortlessly mimicking the latest run way styles. We however… love to travel! But that doesn’t mean we don’t still take time to enjoy the place we call home. The older we get the more we understand the importance of appreciating where you come from. And with one of the most beautiful locations in the world as our backyard, we don’t have to try too hard.
Considered, a must-see destination, the vacation you need to take this year, and where to visit in Canada… all of these are just a few of the tag lines that frequently follow a description of Banff National Park. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve witnessed it, the rocky mountains never cease to amaze. If you haven’t been then you need to. If you have, you already know what I’m talking about. Imagine endless hiking, amazing skiing, breathtaking scenery and quaint mountain towns built for meandering tourists.
We love to spend time in the mountains, not only because it’s where I grew up but because it allows us to truly enjoy the wild and rugged landscape that Canada still has to offer. It may sound cliche but fresh air really is synonymous with the feeling of freedom. Sitting atop a mountain or next to a glacier forces us to slow down, if even just for a minute. It’s these places that allow us to really take in the moment.
This is why we are super excited to be spending the holidays in the mountains. While we can’t argue that Banff is amazing year round, there is something magical about Christmas time. This cozy mountain town transforms into a winter wonderland straight from our childhood fantasies. Horse drawn sleigh rides, hot chocolate by an open fire and starlit ice skating help to complete the picture. This is a place for couples to fall in love and parents to share with their children.
So, if you are looking to get away then this might just be it. Check out some of our highlights from the past year and stay tuned for more posts on our favourite things to see and do.
